| You are very welcome to help knit some teddies with us and help put smiles on children's faces. Most of these kids have never even owned one toy in their little lives. A lot of these children are in orphanages because their parents have died from aids, wars, other illnesses, or they just can't afford to keep them. I can't imagine never owning one toy to play with while I was growing up or let alone being in an orphanage because my parents were gone or they couldn't afford to keep me, but to millions of children this is reality. The nurses and doctors that volunteer to go to these countries, help with the medical attention that is very much needed, they take these teddies with them and pass them out to the children. When they get back home from these countries they tell us that these children will hang on to those little bears and take them everywhere they go and that this may be the only toy they will ever have. We need more bears ladies and men. So if you have anyway yarn laying around and you know how to knit, then grab some knitting needles.... and start knitting for the children. The ladies in this Miramichi group will be very helpful to you if you need any information on patterns, where to send the bears and more. I also found a few websites on "Teddies for Tragedies" in other places around the world, a group women and men out there doing the same thing as we are. Maybe there is a group near you that you can join, or maybe you could start your own "Teddies for Tragedies" group. Wow that would be so great and from what I hear from my mother, the ladies have a lot of fun talking and getting together at times. The most important of all besides touching the heart of a child, would be touching your own heart knowing that you put a smile on a little girl or boy's face. |
