Little Red Riding Hood
A Long, long time ago, in a little village at the edge of a forest, there lived a little girl with
her mother and her father.  This little girl was the sweetest kindest child there ever was.
She was always dressed in a pretty red cloak and hood that her mother had made for
her.  This is how everyone started calling her Little Red Riding Hood.

One day Little Red Riding Hood's mother called her and said.  "Little Red Riding Hood
your grandmother is very ill.  Please take this basket of goodies that I have made to her.
"Oh yes mother I would love to." Little Red Riding Hood replied

Little Red Riding Hood, ran to get the basket of goodies.  Her mother said "Be careful."
giving her a kiss on the cheek. "Don't stray from the path, don't stop on the way, and
don't speak to any strangers."

Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother lived all by herself in a little cottage on the other
side of the forest. Little Red Riding Hood had been through this forest alone many times,
and knew her way.  So she was not frightened at all.  She skipped merrily along the
forest path enjoying the bright sunshine and the birds singing in the trees.

But suddenly the wolf stepped out from behind a tree.
"Hello, little girl."  the wolf said with his nicest voice.
"Where are you going on this bright and beautiful day?"

Little Red Riding Hood was feeling so happy that she forgot about her mother telling her
not to speak to strangers.  She smiled at the wolf and said with her sweet little voice.
"Hello Mr. Wolf, I am on my way to see my Grandma, she is very sick and I have a
basket full of goodies that my mother has made for her.  My Grandma lives on the other
side of this forest."

"Oh dear," said the wolf  "how sad it is that your Grandma isn't feeling well."

The wolf then took off into the forest racing to grandma's cottage, trying to get there
before Little Red Riding Hood arrived.

The wolf arrived at Grandma's cottage first, he knocked on the door with a gentle tap-tap.

"Who is it?" called Grandma.
"It's me Little Red Riding Hood."  making his voice sound like a little girl as much as he
could.

"My dear Red Riding Hood, I am to weak to open the door.  Lift the latch and do come
in." Grandma told the wolf thinking it was Little Red Riding Hood.

The wolf did as Grandma said and walked into the little cottage.  There was Grandma,
feeling very ill lying in her bed under her blankets.  The wolf jumped onto the bed, and
gobbled Grandma right up with one bite.

The wolf knew that Little Red Riding Hood would be arriving soon, so he wasted no
time, he put on Grandma's clothes and her little cap that she always wore to bed.  He
covered himself up as much as he could and laid on Grandma's bed pretending to be her.

Now Little Red Riding Hood was walking as fast as she could through the forest, when
all of a sudden she seen the most beautiful flowers.
"Oh those flowers are so beautiful, I am going to pick them for Grandma, she loves
flowers."

Little Red Riding Hood also forgot that her mother told her not to stop on the path to
Grandma's home.
By the time Red Riding Hood finished picking the flowers and found her way back to the
path again, it was getting late.
"Oh dear"  she said to herself "I better get to Grandma's cottage quickly before it gets to
late."
Soon Little Red Riding Hood arrived at Grandma's cottage.

"Grandma!! Open the door, it's me Little Red Riding Hood." she said loudly.

The wolf tried to sound like Grandma and he said
"My dear little Red Riding Hood, I'm to weak to open the door.  Lift the latch and do come
in."
Little Red Riding Hood did as the wolf said, and she walked into the cottage.
She walked up to the side of Grandma's bed and bent over to give her a hug.

"Why Grandma you look different today, you must really be ill."
The wolf pretended to cough to show Red Riding Hood how very ill her Grandma was.
"Poor grandma!"  Little Red Riding Hood said.

Then Little Red Riding Hood was trying to make Grandma comfortable by fluffing up her
pillow and fixing her blankets, then she looked at Grandma and said.

"Grandma, what big ears you have!"
"All the better to hear you with my dear."  the wolf replied.

"What big eyes you have Grandma!"
"All the better to see you with my dear." the wolf answered.

"Grandma what a big nose you have!"
and the wolf replied "All the better to smell you with my dear."

"But Grandma what big teeth you have!"

Then the wolf jumped out of the bed saying
"ALL THE BETTER TO EAT YOU WITH MY DEAR!!"
He grabbed Little Red Riding Hood and ate her up with one bite.

Now the wolf felt really sleep after such a large meal.  He decided to take a nap in
Grandma's bed.  Soon he was fast asleep.

Just then a woodcutter passed by and heard the sound of the wolf's snoring through the
open windows of the cottage.  The woodcutter knew this wolf, and did not trust him at all.

So very quietly, he walk up to the cottage, not wanting to wake the wolf.  He opened the
door and went in.  "Ahh" thought the woodcutter, noticing that the wolf's tummy was so
large.  He wondered who he had eaten this time.

The woodcutter picked up a pair of Grandma's scissors lying on the table, and cut open
the sleeping wolf's tummy.  Out climbed Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother.
They were very happy to be out of the wolf's tummy.
"Oh Thank you for saving us."  said Little Red Riding Hood to the woodcutter.
"Hurry," said the woodcutter "let's not waste any time.  The wolf could wake up any
moment."
The woodcutter and Red Riding Hood then gathered up some stones, the biggest they
could find, and put them inside the wolf's stomach.  Then Grandma took out her sewing
needle and thread and sewed up the wolf's tummy.

In a little while the wolf woke up.  "Oh dear I think I must be getting old, I can't even eat a
little girl and her Grandma with out feeling like my stomach is full of stones!"  The wolf
gave a great big belch and said " I will never ever eat another person again, they are
making my tummy feel really sick."

That was the last that anyone has ever seen of the big bad wolf.

LIttle Red Riding Hood gave her Grandma the basket full of goodies and a big hug.
Grandma was strong enough to give Red Riding Hood a hug back.

From then on Little Red Riding Hood always listened to what her mother told her to do
and she never got into trouble again.
